Ms. Erika Winney has joined the Greater Johnstown School District as the Food Services Director, a shared service that GJSD utilizes from Capital Region BOCES.
After earning her AAS at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Winney earned a dual bachelor and master’s degree in Dietetics from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY. She has been a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) in the healthcare field for 20 years, with recent stints at both Albany Medical Center, and Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home. She has practiced her trade all over the United States, including Pasadena, CA – Las Vegas, NV – Tacoma, WA – Cheyenne, WY – and Lone Tree, CO!
She was born and raised in Broadalbin and is a graduate of Broadalbin-Perth High School. She has an eight year old son named Johna, who currently attends B-P.
In her downtime, Winney stays very active by running, competing in triathlons, hiking, skiing, swimming, gardening, and cooking. She is a HUGE football fan who roots fiercely for her beloved Buffalo Bills. She is also a fan of the Buffalo Sabres hockey team.
Winney is very focused on health and nutrition, but says that her one guilty food pleasure is Buffalo chicken wings. (By the way …. does anyone detect a Buffalo theme here?)
This marks Ms. Winney’s first time working in a school district. She said she is excited for the opportunity to bring her expertise and knowledge to the staff and students of the Johnstown district.
“I’m really looking forward to getting involved with everything and anything involving nutrition and food health, from pre-K all the way to our graduating seniors” she said. “Eventually, I would love to work with our athletes, talk to health classes and visit with our elementary classrooms to teach them the benefits of eating healthy and taking care of their bodies.”
