New Student Registration
Registration for all new students must be completed with the Central Registrar, located at Johnstown High School, 1 Sir Bills Circle, Johnstown, NY. In order to register a new student, residency in the Greater Johnstown School District must be verified and a registration packet must be completed. Items that may be used to prove residency are listed below. Registration packets can be found on the forms page on the district website, or obtained at the Registration Office. Parent/Guardian proof of residency must be provided using two of the following:
- Drivers License
- Current utility bill
- Current telephone bill
- Copy of Deed/Mortgage Statement
- Lease Agreement
- Pay Stub
- Auto Insurance ID Card
- Mail (not personal)
- Change of address form from the Post Office (must be stamped)
After completing the residency information, you will be asked to complete a Registration form, a Request for Records and a Home Language Questionnaire (find forms on forms page). We request that you bring the following paperwork with you:
- Child’s Birth Certificate
- Child’s Immunization Record
- Custody Paperwork (if applicable)
- Child’s IEP (if applicable)
- Name, address and phone number for previous school district
Any incomplete paperwork will need to be obtained as soon as possible.
2023-24 Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration
During the week of February 13-17, 2023, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the Greater Johnstown School District will conduct open enrollment for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2023-2024 school year. Please note that applications will not be accepted prior to February 13. Registrations will still be accepted after the February 13 date, however, student placement may be limited for the pre-k program.
To be eligible to apply for pre-k, children must be four years old on or before December 1, 2023. To be eligible to register for kindergarten, children must be five years old on or before December 1, 2023. Pre-k and kindergarten at GJSD are full day programs. There will be 54 slots available for the 2023-2024 Pre-k program. If greater than 54 pre-k applications are received by March 10, a lottery will take place on Wednesday, March 15 at the Knox Building.
Directions for registering for 2023-24 pre-k or kindergarten students
Step 1:
Registration documents may be printed from the forms page on the district website; may be picked up at the main office at Pleasant Avenue Elementary School; may be picked up at the Central Registrar’s Office at Johnstown High School; or may be requested by emailing the GJSD School Registrar (registration@johnstownschools.org). Questions regarding pre-k and kindergarten registration may be directed to the Central Registrar (518) 762-4611 ext. 3120, or Pleasant Avenue Elementary School (518) 762-8610.
Notice: If your child is currently attending Johnstown as a 2022-23 pre-k student, you do not need to complete the registration process for kindergarten for 2023-2024.
Step 2:
Beginning on February 13, 2023, copies of completed pre-k application packets or kindergarten registration packets, together with required documentation (see list below) may be dropped off for the Central Registrar, located at Johnstown High School, 1 Sir Bills Circle, Johnstown, between 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Required documents:
- All completed forms from the application/registration packet
- Copies of Two (2) Proofs of Address (as listed in application/registration packet)
- Copy of Parent ID
- Original legal Birth Certificate (photocopy will be made at school and original returned to you)
- Immunization Record from your pediatrician
- Copy of IEP (if applicable)
- Copy of Custody Court Order (if applicable)
- Lead Screening Results (for pre-k applicants)
