Ethan Petrie, 2022 USA Lacrosse Academic All-American

GJSD Senior Ethan Petrie, son of Scott and Shannon Petrie, was recently named an Academic All-American by USA Lacrosse. The prestigious award is given to an elite group of high school lacrosse players who exhibit exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom and volunteers within their community. Ethan is one of five players in Section 2 to receive the honor this year, and the only player selected out of the Foothills Council.

He will be featured in an upcoming issue of USA Lacrosse Magazine to commemorate the achievement.

Ethan will graduate from Johnstown Senior High School on Friday, June 24 with the third highest GPA for the Class of 2022. This fall, he will attend the University of San Diego. He was inducted into National Honor Society as a junior and has received numerous academic awards, including the NYS Attorney General’s Triple “C” Award, the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award from the University of Rochester, AP Biology Award, and the U. S. History Award.

He participates in many extracurricular activities at school and has been the treasurer for the Class of 2022, co-vice president of Student Council and co-president of National Honor Society.

Ethan is very active in the Johnstown community and volunteers his time with the Backpack Program, at the local food pantry and with the Johnstown Youth Lacrosse Program. Earlier this year, he was awarded the “Lead By Example” award from the Fulton County Youth Bureau.

As impressive as Ethan is in the classroom and with his community engagement, he has also excelled at athletics during his time at Johnstown and was chosen to represent Johnstown as one of Fulton County’s 2022 top athletic achievers.

Ethan was a starting defenseman for Johnstown’s varsity lacrosse team for all four years of high school, helping his team to a Section 2 Class D Runner-Up title in 2019 and a Section 2 Class D Championship title in 2021. He received Honorable Mention as an All-Conference Defenseman his freshman year, was named as a First Team All-Conference Defenseman his junior year and was named to the 2022 All-Conference team. In 2021, he was awarded the “Most Dedicated Player” award and for his senior year, he was named “Most Outstanding Player.” He was named captain during his junior and senior years. He was selected twice to the Adirondack team, competing in the statewide lacrosse tournament.

Ethan was also captain of the varsity football team during his senior year and was named as a 2nd team All-League Linebacker.
