Did you know?

food in backpacksSince 2015, the Johnstown Teachers Association (JTA) has worked with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to provide a direct-to-home delivery service to reach those children in need of healthy meals.

That need has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the JTA has stepped up to help. By the end of the 2019- 20 school year, the group expects to provide close to 7,000 meals for district children. This is all done through the efforts of GJSD teachers, who are the main contributors supporting this essential program.

“This program makes a significant impact in our district by contributing to families that are in need of this service on a day-to-day basis,” said Pleasant Avenue Elementary kindergarten teacher Olivia Barnett. “We work with community partners, like the Greater Johnstown Lions Club, which allows us to continue and expand food service delivery. As district employees, we believe we can ensure that smart meal options are available and strengthen our community in the process. We couldn’t do this program without our volunteers and our local community partners.”
