Policy 8270 – Instructional Technology

The Board of Education affirms its responsibility to provide District students, faculty, and administration with the necessary technology so that they may have a full opportunity to successfully provide comprehensive educational opportunities.  The Board of Education further recognizes its responsibility for the development and maintenance of optimal educational programs.  The Board’s instructional goals for District students includes:  “ to provide a variety of materials and alternative teaching methods and techniques to accommodate various student interests, reading levels, learning styles and rates.”  The Board asserts its basic responsibility to provide various materials for all District students and teachers.

It is a natural and consistent extension of these policies that the Board of Education endorses, and where fiscally reasonable, makes available the latest technological developments and instruments that facilitate the delivery of these materials and the implementation of these various methodologies and techniques.  The Superintendent shall establish any and all rules, regulations, and procedures necessary to implement and maintain this policy.

It is affirmed that all technological assets including, but not limited to, computers, software and related paraphernalia must be used only under the auspices of this policy.  Accordingly, it would be inappropriate and inconsistent for the Board of Education to, through whatever mechanism, limit or modify the application of these policies and administrative guidelines without revising same.
