Policy 1130 – Number of Members and Terms of Office

Number of Members

Commencing with the 2022-23 school year, the Board of Education of the Greater Johnstown City School District shall consist of seven (7) members elected by the qualified voters of the School District at the annual election as prescribed by law.

Commencing with the 2022-23 school year and, in order to reduce the numbers of the Board of Education as authorized by the voters of the Greater Johnstown School District and as was approved by the Commissioner of Education, candidates shall be elected as follows:

  • Two vacancies will exist for the term commencing July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2025 (reducing number to 8 and filling two vacancies);
  • Two vacancies will exist for the term commencing July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2026 (reducing number to 7, and filling two vacancies
  • Three vacancies will exist for the term commencing July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2027.

Thereafter, vacancies will exist on a 3-year cycle of  2 vacancies, 2 vacancies, and 3 vacancies.

Term of Office

Members of the Board of Education shall serve for three (3) years beginning July 1 following their election and each term shall expire on the thirtieth day of June of the third year.
