Shared Decision Meeting Committee to Meet Oct. 25

Dear GJSD Community,

I would like to make sure that our school community is aware of the processes in place for the work that is carried out by our District’s Shared Decision Making (SDM) team.

Certain topics that come about are referred to the SMD committee so they can be discussed, researched and analyzed from the viewpoint of different stakeholders, before any decision is made.

When appropriate, ad hoc committees are formed to address a specific topic. This past school year, the SDM committee created ad hoc committees to address athletics and the move from Foothills to the WAC; transportation; and the recent building/grade reconfiguration. Ad hoc committee members vet the issue at hand, and then make their recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools, who in turn, makes a recommendation to the Board of Education.

SDM committee meetings are open to the public for them to observe. However, only the members of the SDM committee can participate and speak in the meetings. By opening our meetings to the public, we feel it provides a very important opportunity for us to be transparent with our community about the work that our SDM committee does, and for our community members to stay informed on important decisions being made on behalf of our staff and students.

We invite the public to our next SDM meeting, taking place at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the District Office conference room (at JHS).

An agenda for the 10/25 meeting can be viewed here, and important background information on the SMD committee can be found here.

Sincerely,

Dr. William Crankshaw
Superintendent of Schools
