Kline and Stock run as incumbent candidates for GJSD Board of Education

On Tuesday, May 20, the community will vote on the district’s proposed spending plan for the 2025-26 school year. They will also elect two candidates to serve on the board of education for three-year terms beginning July 1, 2025.

Board members whose terms are expiring this year include Marjorie Kline and William J. Stock. Mr. Stock and Mrs. Kline are the only two community members who turned in petitions to run for the two open Board of Education seats.

Mrs. Marjorie Kline of Johnstown is finishing her first term (2022-2025) as a board member for the Greater Johnstown School District, and is running for a second term. She is a graduate of Johnstown High School and has resided in the district for 38 years. She and her husband Rodney Schuyler reside within the city of Johnstown.

Mrs. Kline currently works as a graphic artist for Capital Region BOCES where she designs print and web content for school districts across New York state. She earned her Fine Arts Certificate at Pratt at Munson WIlliams Proctor and her BFA in photography from Rochester Institute of Technology.

As a member of the district’s Board of Education, she served on the Audit, Budget and Finance committee, as well as the Academic and Extracurricular committee. She is involved with several local community initiatives, including service as a meal team leader for NOAH, a board member for Johnstown Arts and Music (assisting to organize the Midsummer Concert series), and as a founding member of 100 Women Who Care of the ADK Foothills.

Why I want to serve on the GJSD Board of Education:

I would like to continue my service to the GJSD Board of Education because I believe that a strong community is what makes every aspect of our area great to live in. A solid education means that future generations will come back to raise their own families and build their businesses. Cultivating deep roots serves every single person in this community – parents, students, business owners, homeowners, seniors and many more demographics. I also believe in supporting a diverse learning landscape where everyone feels heard and that they have a seat at the table.

William J. Stock

William J. Stock of Johnstown is finishing his first term (2022-2025) as a member of the GJSD Board of Education and is running for his second term. He has lived in the Johnstown District for more than 30 years and is a graduate of Johnstown High School. Mr. Stock has two sons who attend the Greater Johnstown School District – one is in fifth grade at Knox, and the other is in first grade at Pleasant Avenue.

Mr. Stock is the owner of PHJ Holding, LLC, a local industrial construction company. He earned his business management degree at Cazenovia College and a degree in residential and commercial construction management from SUNY Morrisville. In his spare time, Mr. Stock enjoys watching his boys participate in athletics, and golfing.

Why I want to serve on the GJSD Board of Education:

Since joining the Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education three years ago, I have developed a deeper understanding of the challenges and responsibilities that come with serving our school community. It has taken time to fully acclimate to the role, but over the past couple of years, I believe the board has made significant strides in developing a clear, strategic roadmap aimed at restructuring the district in a positive and sustainable way. I am committed to continuing this important work and ensuring that our students, staff, and families benefit from the progress we’ve made.
