Freshman Timeline
August
- Attend Ninth grade orientation for students and their parents.
September
- Check your schedule for accuracy.
- Sign up and get involved in clubs; try a leadership role this year!
- Keep in mind deadline for Add/Drop Period is the second week of September.
February
- Meet with your School Counselor to select courses for tenth grade.
Sophomore Timeline
September
- Check your schedule for accuracy.
- Sign up and get involved in clubs; try a leadership role this year!
October
- Sign up and take the PSAT test if eligible. This test is a preliminary SAT test.
December
- HFM BOCES Career and Technical Center visits to discuss career and technical education options available to students.
January
- Students may visit the HFM BOCES Career and Technical Center to explore career and technical education options.
March
- Meet with your School Counselor to select classes for Junior year. Academic standing is reviewed and career and college exploration is discussed.
Junior Timeline
September
- Check your schedule, make sure that you have all the courses that you want and need.
- Sign up for the PSAT, a pretest for the SAT.
- Get involved in clubs or activities.
October
- FMCC College Fair – College admission representatives available to speak to, in addition to informative seminars.
- PSAT/NMSQT
December
- Attend Financial Aid Night
January
- Sign up for the SAT and ACT college admission tests.
March
- Review college catalog materials.
- Compare and contrast your findings.
- Visit college campuses.
- Attend college fairs.
- Review pros and cons of early admission.
April – June
- Take SAT and ACT exams.
May
- Take SAT offered at JHS.
July/August
- Visit college campuses.
- Start to narrow your list of colleges down based on campus visits.
Senior Timeline
September
- Register for the ACT/SAT/SAT Subject tests.
- Schedule your Senior Meeting with your counselor.
- Ask at least two teachers for recommendation letters.
- Meet with college representatives visiting JHS.
- Gather all application materials needed to apply to colleges.
- Visit any colleges on your list, if you have not already done so.
October
- Register for the SAT if you have not done so.
- Senior Meeting.
- Write your college application essay.
- Take the ACT or SAT test.
- College Fair at FMCC.
- Check the Counseling Center for Scholarship Information.
- Continue to meet with College Representatives.
November
- College applications should be completed and handed in to your counselor.
- Financial Aid Night.
December
- Finalize college applications.
January
- File FAFSA.
- Apply for scholarships.
April
- Watch for college acceptance letters!
- Compare your financial aid packages.
- Select a college by May 1!
May
- Notify colleges of your final decision.
- Keep track of all deadlines at the college of your choice.
