JHS Welcomes New Assistant Principal, Ms. Heather Bozek

Ms. Heather Bozek has been appointed Assistant Principal of Johnstown High School, following unanimous approval by the Board of Education at its August 12 meeting. She will begin her role on September 1, supporting newly appointed JHS Principal Nick Snow for the 2025–2026 school year.

Bozek replaces Anne Bagot, who retired earlier this month after a 20-year career at GJSD that included 15 years as a social studies teacher and five years as an administrator.

“Adding Ms. Bozek was the final step in building one of the most dynamic, experienced, and professional administrative teams I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with,” said Superintendent of Schools Alicia D. Koster.

“Her expertise and deep understanding of educational data — both in interpretation and application — will be a tremendous asset as the District continues its mission to provide Johnstown students with the best educational experience possible,” she added. “Ms. Bozek’s outgoing personality and approachability make her a great fit for students in grades 8–12, and I’m confident she will form strong, meaningful connections that will contribute to her success in this role.”

Ms. Bozek joins Johnstown after six years at HFM BOCES, where she most recently served as Coordinator of District Data. Before that, she worked as an Instructional Coach and Data Analyst. Prior to HFM, she was an elementary classroom teacher for the Greater Amsterdam School District for 13 years.

After graduating from Mayfield High School, Ms. Bozek attended FMCC, where she studied Liberal Arts. She then earned a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6) from the College of Saint Rose. She later completed a Master’s degree in Literacy at Walden University and obtained her School Building Leader and School District Leader certifications through SUNY Plattsburgh.

Ms. Bozek currently resides in Gloversville with her 13 year-old daughter Maggie, who is entering eighth grade. They have two dogs, named Jimi and Joy.

“Most of my free time is spent with my daughter,” Bozek said. They like travelling together and went to two WNBA games together this summer. “Watching my daughter play basketball is one of my favorite things,” she added. “There’s nothing better than seeing her passion, effort, and teamwork on the court — it makes me incredibly proud.” Something you might not know about Ms. Bozek is that she loves listening to true crime podcasts, saying “it’s pretty much the only thing I listen to in the car.”

Ms. Bozek expressed her enthusiasm about joining the Johnstown District and shared her eagerness for the upcoming school year. “What I’m most excited about is meeting all of my students and their families, and becoming an active part of this school community,” she said. “Building strong relationships with both families and staff is very important to me, and I’m looking forward to working together to support our students’ growth and success.”
