Inclement weather contingency plans announced for Friday evening’s outdoor graduation

For anyone who has attended a Johnstown graduation at Knox Field, you know just how special the evening is for everyone involved. We are looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 at commencement tomorrow evening, Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. on Knox Field.

That said, we are keeping a close eye on the weather and remain hopeful that we will be able to hold graduation as planned outdoors. Our goal is to celebrate on Knox Field, but the District’s top priority will always be the safety of our students, families, staff, and guests. While light rain can often be managed, thunderstorms and lightning present greater concerns.

We want to keep everyone informed about our contingency plans should inclement weather make an outdoor ceremony impossible.

  • If rain, thunderstorms, or lightning require a change in plans, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Johnstown Performing Arts Center (JPAC) at Johnstown High School Friday evening at 7 p.m.
  • The Superintendent will make a final decision by 4 p.m. on Friday in consultation with Administration.
  • Any updates will be communicated directly to students and families through ParentSquare and shared with the broader community on the District’s Facebook page.
  • If the ceremony is moved indoors, each graduating senior will be limited to four tickets for family members.
  • As a reminder, the ceremony will be livestreamed on the District’s YouTube channel  (listed as “Johnstown Live Events & Videos”) regardless of whether it is held outdoors or indoors. If the event is moved inside, the livestream will also be shown in the LGI (the newly refurbished small auditorium near the high school gym) to accommodate additional family members and guests who are unable to be seated in the JPAC.
  • Please note that if the ceremony is held indoors, the celebratory fireworks display will be canceled.

Graduation is a special event for the students, families and the community. The goal is to try to hold our commencement ceremony on Knox Field. Let’s hope the weather cooperates!
