Just as our students practice fire drills throughout the school year, GJSD’s building safety teams also train for emergencies they hope never occur. These proactive efforts are part of the district’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and prepared learning environment for all.
In a recent tabletop exercise led by Jason Mumbach with Marsh Risk, members of the district building-level safety teams worked through a simulated bus accident to practice their response and coordination. The scenario challenged participants to think critically, communicate effectively, and make timely decisions in a high-pressure situation, all while considering the safety and well-being of students and staff. The simulation also provided an opportunity to review communication systems and ensure that all involved understand their responsibilities during an emergency.

“The safety of our staff and students is our top priority and guides every decision we make at GJSD,” Superintendent Alicia D. Koster said. “This exercise was a great opportunity for our teams to work through a hypothetical scenario with a clear, focused mindset – allowing us to identify gaps, strengthen communication and processes, and ensure the District is fully prepared to respond effectively if the need ever arises. We want the peace of mind knowing the right resources and trained personnel are in place should an event like this ever occur.”
By continuing to invest in training and preparedness, GJSD remains committed to fostering a culture of safety, readiness, and care throughout the district.
