The Greater Johnstown School District plans to expand transportation services in the new year, ensuring that all students in grades K–4 will be eligible to use District school bus transportation, regardless of their home’s distance from their school building.
The amendment to the District’s transportation policy is scheduled for an official vote by the Board of Education at its next regularly scheduled meeting, to be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, in the LGI (Large Group Instruction) room at Johnstown High School.
Once passed, the new policy will take effect on Monday, January 5, 2026—the first day back to school after the holiday break.
“This transportation expansion is something the District has been researching for quite some time,” Superintendent of Schools Alicia D. Koster said. “We’ve made many positive improvements to our transportation program over the past few years, including the cost-saving decision to outsource privately our bus fleet and drivers, as well as hiring a dedicated Transportation Director, Mrs. Julia Barringer, to serve as a liaison to both STA Brown’s and to our families. We feel we are now in a strong position to expand even further, and we are thrilled to offer this additional service to families with young students,” she added.
Families with students attending Pleasant Avenue or Warren Street will receive a message from their building principal this Sunday (December 14). The message will include a Google Form for families to sign up for transportation services for K–4 students who are not already enrolled. The form needs to be submitted by MONDAY, DECEMBER 22.
