Celebrating excellence at Pleasant Ave: S.T.A.R. Awards

At Pleasant Ave, we believe in celebrating the achievements and character of our students, and the recent S.T.A.R. Awards Assembly was a shining example of this commitment. The event brought together students, teachers, and staff to honor the incredible efforts and positive contributions of our school community. S.T.A.R. is part of the Conscious Discipline social-emotional learning initiative that Principal Cotter is leading this year.

The assembly kicked off with the Pleasant Ave School Family Agreement, reminding everyone of the importance of being safe, helpful, and a S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Academic Responsibility). Students were encouraged to use their listening ears, keep their voices quiet, and maintain calm bodies—values that are at the heart of our school culture.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the S.T.A.R. Awards, recognizing students and classes for their outstanding achievements. From class awards to individuals, each recipient was celebrated for their hard work, kindness, and dedication. Special recognition was given to students for their leadership, helpfulness, and ability to inspire their peers.

The assembly also featured the Kindness Awards, where students from Pre-K to first grade were honored for their acts of compassion and thoughtfulness. These awards serve as a reminder of the importance of kindness in creating a positive and inclusive school environment. To encourage even more acts of kindness, a special drawing to win a bike will be held at the end of the year.

In addition to celebrating achievements, the assembly highlighted important school rules and values. Students were reminded of playground safety, hallway etiquette, and cafeteria behavior, all of which contribute to a safe and respectful learning environment. The school’s literacy program was also emphasized, with students encouraged to keep reading and turning in their reading logs to prepare for the upcoming carnival.

The event concluded with a heartfelt performance of the Peace Like a River song, showcasing the unity and spirit of the Pleasant Ave school community. The assembly created a renewed sense of pride and motivation to continue being S.T.A.R.s in their classrooms and beyond.
