At the Board of Education meeting on Thursday evening, June 11, Superintendent of Schools Alicia Koster recognized Board President Dave D’Amore and Board Member Joyel Richardson for their dedicated service to the District as they prepare to conclude their terms on June 30.

D’Amore and Richardson did not seek reelection this year. In May, voters elected Pat Oare and Nicole Naselli to the Board of Education. They will begin their three-year terms on July 1.

D’Amore was elected to two consecutive three-year terms on the Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education, serving from 2020 to 2026. He served as Vice President in 2022 and as Board President from 2022 through 2026. During his tenure, D’Amore contributed to numerous committees, including Academic & Extracurricular, Audit, Budget & Finance, Facilities, Personnel, and Operations & Planning.

Richardson also served two consecutive three-year terms on the Board of Education from 2020 to 2026. She served as Vice President from 2022 to 2023 and was a member of both the Personnel and District-Wide Wellness committees throughout her tenure.

D’Amore and Richardson began their service during a historic period for the District. Both were first elected in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic required the annual school budget vote and board election to be conducted entirely by absentee ballot. Their early years on the board included virtual meetings held via Zoom and a period of significant transition for the District.

During their six years of service, they worked alongside three superintendents and helped guide the District through the transition from a nine-member Board of Education to its current seven-member structure.

Through their leadership and steadfast commitment, they have helped guide the District’s continued growth and success. We are deeply grateful for their dedicated service to the Greater Johnstown School District and the community they have so faithfully served.
