Settling the Early Adirondacks

Fifth graders enjoyed a presentation by the Blue Mountain Lake Museum titled
“Settling the Adirondacks”.

This program provided students with insights to the challenges faced by early settlers in the Adirondacks, the difficulties of farming in the mountains, and the threat posed by wild animals to livestock and crops. Fur clothing and antique traps were also available for viewing as the presenters discussed how farmers turned their pests into profits with tracking and trapping.
