Public hearing on proposed school budget is July 15

Greater Johnstown School District will hold a public hearing on the $38,975,289 proposed budget for the 2020-21 school year at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15. In order to allow as many people as possible to access the hearing, the event will be held via livestream (see details below).

Residents will be asked to reconsider a $38.97 million proposed spending plan for the 2020-21 school year during a budget revote on July 28. The proposed budget represents a 2.92% spending increase and a tax levy increase of 5%, which is above the district’s calculated tax levy “cap.” A supermajority of voters (60%) is required for budget approval.

The proposed budget is the second step of a multi-year plan to achieve financial stability and improve student achievement in the district. The spending plan shifts some resources from administrative and capital expenses to put greater focus on programming to improve student outcomes.
