Pleasant Ave. Accelerated Reader 2019-20

stack of booksAccelerated Reader Program

What is it?

Accelerated Reader is a computer-based program used to monitor reading practice and progress. Students take short quizzes after reading a book to check if they’ve understood it. This program provides a fun way for families to read together at home and for students to earn rewards for their work!

How does my child participate?

  1. Read an Accelerated Reader (AR) book to/with your child at home. (We recommend students read a book at least 2x before taking the test).
  2. Fill out an AR slip with the book’s title, the author, and your child’s name.
  3. Send the slip to school in your child’s folder. It is your child’s responsibility to notify the teacher that they have a slip and are ready to take a test.
  4. At school, your child will take the AR test for that book.
  5. Come enjoy our monthly AR Nights that will be held at Pleasant Ave Elementary.

How do I know if a book is an AR book?

  1. To make sure that a book is an Accelerated Reader book, visit www.arbookfind.com and type in the book title. The public library has MANY AR books!
  2. Check the spine of the book. Pleasant Ave library books will have a sticker on the spine that indicates it is an AR book. PLEASE be aware that if a book does not have a sticker it may still be an AR book (check www.arbookfind.com to be sure).

Why should my child participate?

  1. This program fosters a love for reading and promotes reading comprehension!
  2. Students earn prizes and can participate in special activities throughout the year. (Please refer to the prize list below that shows what prizes your child is working to earn)
  3. The students work together to earn enough points to have an end of the year carnival!

To get you started,  students received a book courtesy of Pleasant Avenue teachers!
