Opening Day Letter from the JJSHS Principal
Dear Johnstown Junior-Senior High School Families,
Welcome back to the 2022-23 school year. I hope that you were able to find some relaxing time this summer! Administration, teachers, and staff have worked very hard to prepare for the upcoming school year. We are so thrilled for our students to return to school on Tuesday, September 6th.
The school day begins at 7:45AM and doors will open for students at 7:35AM. Student entrances will be:
- 7th & 8th grade walkers, bikers and students dropped off will enter through the doors in the A-wing near room A105 in the circle off of Pearl St.
- 9th & 10th grade walkers, bikers and students dropped off will enter through the main lobby doors in the front circle off of Pearl St.
- 11th & 12th grade walkers, bikers, drivers and students dropped off will enter through the Johnstown Performing Arts Center doors in the parking lot off of Pearl St.
- Bus students will enter through the doors off of the bus loop on Wright Drive.
The last assigned class of the day ends at 2:30 PM. A minor adjustment to this year will be that all students will be dismissed at that time. Students should leave school premises at their dismissal time unless they are required to stay after school for academic support or after school activities.
Schedules for students grades 7-12 will be available on the Schooltool portal by September 1st. Any concerns with schedules should be addressed through email to a school counselor (7th & 8th-Mrs. Yetto, 9th-12th A-K-Mr. Blacha and L-Z Mrs. LaCoppola). If you are unable to access it, please contact the main office at 518-762-4661. Schedules will also be available on the first day of classes.
Students are required to use their lockers and school issued locks. Backpacks shall remain in student lockers. Students have school issued locks to lock their lockers.
All students are provided with a chromebook. For those students who turned them in for the summer, they will be distributed on the first day of school during homeroom. Those students who did not turn in their device at the end of the school year will not be issued a new one and should report on the first day of school with their school issued chromebook.
Understanding school expectations and policies are important for a successful experience at JJSHS. Important information such as our attendance policy and academic eligibility can be found on www.johnstownschools.org. Other critical information can be found there as well, such as, the Dignity for All Students Act, the Codes of Conduct and Title IX. Please visit the district website regularly for important updates.
In closing, I am very excited to get the school year started. Orientation for 7th and 9th graders and new students will be on Wednesday, August 31st and Open House will be on Wednesday, October 12th. If you have any concerns prior to that, feel free to contact me or the faculty at any time.
Sincerely yours,
Scott M. Hale
