The Knox Junior High Odyssey of the Mind team performed wonderfully in their first experience at a world level competition. There were 69 teams in their problem and division, and they finished very respectably in 18th place overall.
The main part of the competition revolves around an 8-minute skit created and performed completely by the seven team members. This long term problem is the part that the team worked on for most of the school year. When looking at their scores on this part alone, the Energetic Engineers came in third in the WORLD! They were only beat by Poland and Japan, making their long term problem first in the United States. That is amazing for our small Johnstown School District, which has only been participating in the program for three years.
A huge shout out to the fantastic Johnstown community for supporting the team on their trip to Iowa last week. Not only did community members help the team raise the $13,000 needed for travel and competition fees, they cheered the students on every step of the way. We are so proud of the way this team represented Johnstown and how the whole community rallied behind this special group of students!
