Long Range Planning Committee Formed

Following an open call for applications, the final members of the district’s newly formed Long Range Planning Committee were randomly selected in a public drawing held during the January 10 Board of Education meeting.

Comprised of a cross-section of district residents, the committee includes Knox Principal Robert Kraemer; special educator Jessica Stock; secondary teacher Meredith Fagan; retiree/senior citizen Michael Satterlee; local business owner Dino Vahaviolos; PTA/parent member Melissa Cornell; Board of Education members Susanne Fitzgerald, Jennifer Sponnoble and Kathy Zajicek; Director of Facilities David Wood; and Director of Curriculum & Professional Development Nicole Panton.

Tasked to work with independent educational consultants Castallo & Silky LLC, the committee’s purpose is to seek answers to the question “Are there more efficient and effective options for organizing the district’s grades and schools to ensure a quality education for students while being fiscally responsible to local taxpayers? If so, what are these options?”

Committee members are expected to serve as key communicators with stakeholder groups during the process, helping to ensure that a broad spectrum of views are shared and considered. Areas to be studied by the committee include enrollment, programs, facilities, transportation, staffing and finances. Consultants Castallo & Silky will be responsible for preparing and submitting a final report to the Board of Education in October, based on the committee’s work.
