May 1 Letter to Families from Principal Hale
JHS Families,
Due to the closure of school for the remainder of the school year associated with COVID-19/coronavirus, and out of an abundance of care for students, staff and community members, the Greater Johnstown School District has cancelled the following district events:
-Johnstown High School – Junior Prom/Post Prom
-Class of 2020 – Senior Trip
Please know that these decisions are not taken lightly. However, it’s our responsibility to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, staff and community when reviewing these important factors. The district continues to follow the directives of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the policies mandated by the New York State Department of Health to ensure the health and safety of attendees at public events during this time.
The district understands the significance of these events as a lifelong memory and will continue to brainstorm ideas for future events. Please save the date of October 17th, 2020. We will be inviting our Class of 2020 graduates as our honorary guests to the Homecoming Dance and will plan a special evening for all.
We continue to review planning options for future events, if possible. In the meantime, please continue to review the johnstownschools.org website for updated news on upcoming school activities/events and receive up-to-date news items regarding COVID-19/coronavirus.
I hope that you understand our decision-making process. Please continue to be safe.
Sincerely,
Scott M. Hale
Principal
