Winter Guard

The Greater Johnstown School District Winter Guard, directed by Mrs. Cassandra Myers, is a member of the Mid-York Color Guard Circuit and also competes in Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional competitions. Winter guard is the competitive sport of indoor color guard. Modern color guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement set to music.

Johnstown’s Amethyst Gold varsity guard is composed of students from grades 9-12 and competes in the Scholastic A Class. They are past NYS MYCGC champions and have been finalists at WGI World Championships held in Dayton, Ohio, where they compete against color guards from across the country.

Johnstown’s Amethyst junior varsity guard is composed of students in grades 7-11. They compete in the Cadet class, which provides essential training necessary to learn the basics of winter guard, including equipment, movement, teamwork and performance skills.
