Top 10 Seniors Class of 2017

Mr. JarabekDaniel T. Jarabek, the son of Jay and Patti Jarabek, is the Johnstown High School Class of 2017 Valedictorian. He is an active member of many clubs including International Club, Student Council, MasterMinds, and Captains’ Council. Daniel participated in varsity soccer and baseball throughout high school, and served as a captain for both teams during his senior year. He has received many awards for his academic, athletic and community service achievements. Daniel will attend Clemson University and the Calhoun Honors College in the fall to major in architecture.


Miss SalisburyChloe M. Salisbury, the daughter of William and Debra Salisbury, is the Johnstown High School Class of 2017 Salutatorian. She is the secretary of the William A. Wright Chapter of the National Honor Society and public relations officer for MasterMinds. She has also taken piano lessons since elementary school; is a member of wind ensemble; and was chosen to participate in the All-County Music Festival this past year for flute. Chloe has been a member of Key Club and has written for the JHS Bugle throughout her high school career. She is also a member of the girls varsity tennis team. She played first seed, was named co-captain and a Foothills First Team All-Star athlete and named “Most Outstanding Player” her senior year. Chloe will attend Trinity College in the fall to major in biomedical engineering and minor in a language.

Mr. SpaidTyler Spaid, the son of Adam and Taryn Hadcock, will attend FMCC with 2 + 2 dual admission with the College of Saint Rose. He will study forensic chemistry. Tyler helped found, and is the current president of, the Gaming Club. During his freshman year he was vice president of the Class of 2017. He has received numerous awards, including Student of the Quarter for Health, Academic Excellence awards and President’s awards. He was on the high honor roll every quarter of his high school career. His volunteer work includes meal prep and work at the thrift store at First Presbyterian Church.


Mr. TruckenmillerJack Truckenmiller is the son of Gregory and Rachel Truckenmiller. He will attend SUNY Geneseo to study physics and astronomy. Throughout his high school career, Jack has been involved in Student Council, MasterMinds, National Honor Society, Tech-Know (student IT group), Gaming Club, Pep Band and Marching Band. He has received the Global 9 Award and Spanish 2 Award. During his senior year, he volunteered to announce Johnstown High School’s morning and afternoon announcements to the student body. He also volunteered to help set up the Moon Arts Festival at FMCC.


Miss ThompsonTia Thompson is the daughter of Tim and Kelly Thompson. She will attend St. Lawrence University to study pre-law, philosophy and foreign language. Tia is a member of the William A. Wright Chapter of the National Honor Society.   Her senior year she was accepted to and attended Fulton Montgomery Community College as an early admit student. She is a member of the FMCC Phi Theta Kappa, FMCC Curriculum Committee and is a Spanish tutor at FMCC.


Miss CirilloChelsea Cirillo is the daughter of Peter and Vivienne Cirillo. She will attend Union College to study biology. Chelsea has been a captain of the varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. As a member of the basketball team, she was recognized as the Most Dedicated Player, a Scholar-Athlete and Honorable Mention for the Foothill Council. For lacrosse, she received honorable mention and second team All-Star recognition. Chelsea has served as class president since freshman year. During her high school career, she has served as president of Student Council, treasurer of Key Club and an avid member in International Club and National Honor Society; she also took part in an advisory group to help make improvements in the school. Chelsea has volunteered through the youth group at her church and participated in many community service activities such as 30 Hour Famine, Imagine No Malaria, Habitat for Humanity, and the local soup kitchen.

Miss OrsellMadisyn Orsell, is the daughter of Thomas and Deborah Orsell. She will attend Fulton Montgomery Community College to study child psychology. Madisyn has been involved in International Club and Student Council. She was also involved in school activities such as Freshman Experience and the Backpack Program. She has been active in her community by volunteering at her church and showing support for the students at the elementary level. She would like to thank her parents for encouraging her to do her best.


Mr. OsborneRobert Charles Osborne, is the son of Robert and Jennifer Osborne. He will attend Fulton-Montgomery Community College for general studies. Robert has been a member of the baseball and football teams throughout his high school career. He was captain of the football team his senior year, and was also recognized as Section II Second Team All-Star, Athlete of the Week, Most Dedicated Player and a nominee for the 2016 Capital Region Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award. He is a member of the National Honor Society and served as public relations officer his senior year. He also participated in the JHS musical “Sister Act,” playing the role of Eddie Souther. He was  recognized as Student of the Quarter in math twice and once in music. Robert participated in community service through the Backpack Program. He also works at Lake Pleasant Marina during the summer, where he takes care of boats.

Miss MowreyCecelia Marie Mowrey is the daughter of Rene and Anthony Mowrey Jr. She will attend Hartwick College to study biology and pre-physical therapy. Ceci was awarded the Oyaron Scholarship, Hartwick’s top scholarship. As a senior she studied in the New Visions Program. During her high school career, Ceci has been a member of the Advanced Choir, Wind Ensemble and International Club. She is a dedicated scholar athlete, who has served as captain for both varsity softball and swim team. She joined varsity swim in middle school and swam at Sectionals each year, always placing in the top 16, as well as being nominated to the Foothills Council All-Star teams. She was awarded Most Outstanding Swimmer for the past three years and holds the school record in the 100 Butterfly. She has been a member of USA Swimming since the age of seven. Ceci has worked as a life guard for Caroga Lake Campsites, Northville Beach and JHS. She also volunteers for her church.

Miss MichienziGrace Michienzi is the daughter of Christine Michienzi. She will attend the State University of New York at Buffalo to study psychology and legal studies. Grace has been involved in Drama Club, International Club, Music for the Mind, soccer and basketball. She is also a member of the William A. Wright Chapter of the National Honor Society. Grace’s community service includes volunteering at Camp Colby, the Lake Pleasant Library and the Lake Pleasant 5K Run/Walk. Throughout her high school career she has won awards for theater, academics and sports.
