The Johnstown High School Student Council Club recently completed its second annual Adopt-a-Family holiday donation. Partnering with Catholic Charities of Fulton-Montgomery Counties, Student Council members have been working to raise funds since the beginning of the school year, in order to provide Christmas presents to families in need in local communities. Beginning with a bake sale, the students also hosted the district’s homecoming dance and collected donations from JHS staff members to raise funds.
After receiving information regarding the families from Catholic Charities, the officers of the club (Trey Stover, Lauryn Wilson, Emily Clizbe, Rachel Lee, Samantha Simon, Alexis Houser, Noah Massey, Molly Lake, Noah Champlin, and Riley Hall) went shopping for gifts on Sunday, December 10th. On the following Wednesday, December 13th, a large number of club members met to wrap the presents, which were then delivered by Presidents Riley Hall and Rachel Lee, together with Vice Presidents Emily Clizbe and Lauryn Wilson.
This donation has been a focus of Student Council during the first part of the school year. Senior President Riley Hall said of the donation that “It is a fantastic way to get involved in the community. I know the other officers enjoy not only getting to help those in need, but it is a fun trip for us as well.”
