On Friday, February 12, about 30 Freshman Academy students from Johnstown High School visited Warren Street to work with sixth graders. The freshmen had participated in a Minecraft activity in their own classrooms that involved finding volume and area, and graphing certain characters of the wildly popular video game that involves “mining” blocks that are used for “crafting” virtual worlds and experiences. They then taught the sixth graders how to complete their own Minecraft activity. It was a resounding hit! The freshmen did a wonderful job teaching the concepts of volume, area and graphing to the very interested sixth graders. As a bonus, the sixth grade teachers loved having the opportunity to see students from their past classes.
