Absentee Ballots Available for July 28 Budget Revote

The Greater Johnstown School District will conduct its school budget revote on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the Johnstown Junior-Senior High School, when the polls will be open for in-person voting from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  All persons entering school premises must observe social distancing protocols and wear a mask or face covering.

Individuals who are unable to vote in person may apply for an absentee ballot, as set forth below.

Absentee Ballots

Voters registered as permanently disabled with the county board of elections will automatically receive an absentee ballot. Any other qualified voter wishing to vote by absentee ballot must submit an application to the district clerk’s office. Absentee ballot applications may be printed from this link. If you are unable to print the application, you may call 518-762-4611 ext. 3119 and ask for an application to be mailed to you. Completed applications may be dropped off at the district office or sent by mail to Greater Johnstown School District, Attn: District Clerk, 1 Sir Bills Circle, Johnstown NY 12095. They may also be emailed to lcarpenter@johnstownschools.org.

In accordance with Executive Order 202.47, due to the prevalence and community spread of COVID-19, the potential for contraction of the COVID-19 virus shall be deemed a temporary illness for the purpose of eligibility to vote as an absentee voter in a school budget revote held on July 28, 2020.

Completed applications must be received in the district clerk’s office at least seven days before the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the vote if the ballot will be picked up in person.

If you are issued an absentee ballot, it must be received in the district clerk’s office by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, to be counted.

Who May Vote

You may vote if:

  • You are a U.S. Citizen;
  • You are at least 18 years of age;
  • You are a resident of the school district for at least 30 days before the vote; and
  • You are not disqualified by any reason set forth in NYS Election Law Section 5-106
  • You are a registered voter with the county board of elections or the school district

Voter Registration Required

New York State Education Law Section 2606 requires that qualified voters register to vote in small city school districts. Qualified voters who are registered with the county board of elections are eligible to vote at school district elections. Qualified voters not registered with the county board of elections may register with the school district on July 14, 2020 between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Johnstown Junior-Senior High School Auditorium Lobby.

Not registered? Attend Voter Registration Day July 14, 9:00 AM -1:00 PM

GJSD Voter Registration Day will take place in the Johnstown Junior-Senior High School Auditorium Lobby on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All visitors must observe social distancing and wear a mask or face covering.

To register, you must be a qualified voter and provide photo ID and proof of residency as set forth below:

You are a Qualified Voter if:

  • You are a U.S. Citizen;
  • You are at least 18 years of age;
  • You are a resident of the school district for at least 30 days before the vote; and
  • You are not disqualified by any reason set forth in NYS Election Law Section 5-106

Proof of residency may include:

  • Current NYS Driver’s license or non-driver DMV ID card
  • Recent utility bill (gas, water, electric, phone, cable TV) with street address (no PO Box)
  • Recent bank account statement (you may black out account numbers and balances) with street address (no PO Box)
