Principal’s Corner

Dear Families,

I can not believe that it is already time for the holidays!  As you enter the holiday season, I hope you enjoy a safe and enjoyable time with your families and loved ones.  As our days and weeks go so quickly it is important to take the time to remember that each day is a gift and appreciate all that we have.  I am truly grateful for the opportunity to spend my days with such amazing staff, students, and families.

Another thing that I have been reflecting on a lot lately is how important good attendance is in determining student success.  Often we don’t realize how the days can add up that our children are out of school.  When we don’t have them here, our students don’t get the opportunity to learn and often fall behind.  Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.   As we move into a new year, it is a goal I have to work together to make sure that our students are here with us as much as possible.  If there are barriers that prevent you  from getting your children to school, please reach out to us so that we may help you.

Important Safety Notice

Important Safety Notice

important notice signWhen dropping off students or picking students up, it is extremely important that you leave the left hand lane clear for moving traffic. Please do not stop for any reason in the left hand lane. If you are waiting for your child you must pull in a parking spot or wait briefly in the right lane. If you are coming in the building, you must park your car in a parking spot.

Please be mindful that although we have spoken to students about being safe when crossing to your cars and using crosswalks, we know that children do not always listen. Drive slowly and watch for students crossing at all times when driving through the loop.

Thank you for following procedures to help keep our students safe!

Glebe Newsletter & Calendar December 2018

In addition to the content shared below, a PDF version of the December 2018 Glebe Newsletter & Calendar is available to print using the free Adobe Acrobat program.

Dear Families,

We were excited to see so many of you at Parent-Teacher Conferences and at Accelerated Reader Night. It is important that you and your child’s teacher communicate so that together, you can help develop their pathway to success.  When we see highly interested and involved parents, we see highly interested and involved students.

As always, we have a busy month planned here at Glebe! On December 7th we will kick off the holiday season with a winter sing-a-long in the afternoon. Students are invited to wear holiday colors. On December 14th at 9:20 we will have our Monthly Morning Program. Our book fair will run December 10th-12th. You will receive a notice as to which day/time your child’s class will attend. We hope to see you at Santa’s Wonderland from 6-7:30 p.m. on December 11th. Come in your pj’s and have milk and cookies as Santa reads “The Polar Express”. After our story, students may have their picture taken with Santa and will have the opportunity to make three crafts that can be used as presents. The cost is $5 per student. There is no cost for parents to attend and siblings are welcome! Please return the RSVP form so we have enough materials for everyone. The book fair will also be open during Santa’s Wonderland on December 11th from 6-7:30 p.m.

A reminder, school is closed on December 24th-28th and December 31st-January 2nd. School resumes on Thursday, January 3rd. I hope that you enjoy the holiday season and have the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. I am very grateful to work in such a wonderful school with dedicated teachers, staff, great students, and families. I wish you good health and continued happiness for 2019!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Abbey North, Glebe Principal
