Students
Create a Business to Learn Firsthand Knowledge About
Economics
Always
looking for ways to make learning relevant and exciting,
Ms. Vazal and Mrs. Sotero sat down and brainstormed some
creative practices for students to enjoy. Now, fourth
and fifth graders have the opportunity to participate
in running a business at Jansen Avenue, in a program designed to service the interests
of students
of various abilities. Every Monday and Wednesday, students
in grades four and five can meet in the art room during
recess to take part in the following activities:
organization & meeting deadlines, understanding customer
service, establishing a name and logo, estimating design costs
and
creating advertisements for flyers and announcements.
This is a fantastic way for students to
understand and apply economics, supply & demand,
management production, human resources and so much more
while highlighting the following New York State
curriculums: math, social studies, art and technology.
On Monday, more than 50 students arrived at the art
room to write persuasive letters to Ms. Vazal explaining why they
believed they should be hired as a director of a specific
area in the business. |
