Hall of Fame

Johnstown High School Hall of Fame

The recommendation to establish the JHS Hall of Fame was presented to the Board of Education by Mr. Richard McGuire on July 31, 2002 and unanimously approved by resolution of the Board of Education on November 20, 2002.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor Johnstown High School graduates who have distinguished themselves in their profession, humanitarian or civil affairs, or activities that merit special recognition.

An eight member selection committee, which includes a cross-section of Board of Education members, District administrators, District staff, and community representatives, chooses inductees based on their peer recognition; their contributions to their profession, science, arts, government, education, athletics, their service to community and their appeal as role models.

The First Induction Ceremony was held in 2003
Three Honorees were selected as follows:

• John Dennison Knipple, JHS Class of 1939
• Arlene M. Sitterly, JHS Class of 1941
• William M. Pollak, JHS Class of 1953

The Second Annual Induction Ceremony was held on November 10, 2004
Two Honorees were selected as follows:

• Harry E. “Bud” Fear, JHS Class of 1944
• Donald R. Ruch, DMD, JHS Class of 1974

The Third Annual Induction Ceremony was held on October 16, 2005
Seven Honorees were selected as follows:

• Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Johnstown Academy Class of 1831
• Frederick “Ted” Vosburgh, JHS Class of 1921
• Stanley A. Bown, JHS Class of 1928
• Eric L. Steenburgh, JHS Class of 1959
• Frank Steenburgh, JHS Class of 1961
• Karl F. Steenburgh, JHS Class of 1971
• William A. Steenburgh, JHS Class of 1975

The Fourth Annual Induction Ceremony was held on October 15, 2006
Five Honorees were selected as follows:

• Dr. Ernest Little, JHS Class of 1907
• Major General Daniel Doubleday, JHS Class of 1923
• Richard McGuire, JHS Class of 1945
• Barbara McMartin, JHS Class of 1949
• G. Wallace Hart, JHS Class of 1978

The Fifth Annual Induction Ceremony was held On October 6, 2007
Four Honorees were selected as follows:

• Hon. Carrol S. Walsh, Jr., JHS Class of 1938
• Paul T. Valachovic, JHS Class of 1939
• Peter S. Wilson, Sr., JHS Class of 1950
• John P. (Jack) Siedlecki, Jr., JHS Class of 1969

The Sixth Annual Induction Ceremony was held On November 2, 2008
Three Honorees were selected as follows:
