Glebe Street Elementary School students and staff will
soon be seeing a new face in the building, with Mrs. Abbey
North set to assume the position of Elementary Principal
effective September 24, 2012.
A graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School, Mrs.
North furthered her education at the State University of
New York College at Oswego and the University at Albany.
She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education with a 6-9 ELA
extension; an M.S. in Educational Administration & Policy
Studies with a concentration in K-12 Education; and an
Advanced Graduate Certificate in School District
Leadership.
She comes to Johnstown from the Mayfield Elementary
School, where she has served as the Assistant Elementary
Principal since 2007, as well as the CPSE chairperson and
Co-CSE chairperson for the past year. Previously, she held
positions as dean of students, district mentor
coordinator, remedial reading teacher, second and third
grade teacher, and AIS provider. While at Mayfield, she
chaired both the Character Education Committee and the
Parent Engagement Committee; and was responsible for
assisting with discipline of students, curriculum
planning, and staff evaluations, together with a host of
other duties. These multi-faceted educational experiences
are expected to serve her well as she leads Glebe Street
into new territory that includes APPR, SLO and Common Core
Standards.
Outside of the school environment, Mrs. North engages in
community volunteer service, lending assistance to the
Waggin’ Tails Pet Rescue Center and Encore Kids
Consignment.
Johnstown’s Board of Education and Administration are
pleased to welcome Mrs. North to our school district and
anticipate that Glebe Street staff and students will find
her a wonderful addition to their building!
