Club Gets Knox Students to Mix It Up at Lunch
On
Tues, Nov 14, the Diversity Club at Knox sponsored a
“Mix It
Up At Lunch Day” for both the 7th and 8th graders. “Mix
it Up At Lunch” is a national event that supports young
people who want to improve the social climate of their
schools. Knox's Diversity Club wanted to help bring down
the walls between the various cliques at school and help
students become more comfortable interacting with
different kinds of people. Students were randomly
assigned seats in the cafeteria in order to get them to
step out of their comfort zones and connect with others.
Diversity Club members
also placed some topics for discussion on the lunch
tables to help students get to know their classmates.
Some students were hesitant to separate from their
regular groups, but most were open to the idea. It
turned out to be a very productive and rewarding
experience, and the enthusiastic participation of the
students and staff was greatly appreciated. The efforts,
hard work, and planning of the Diversity Club members
truly paid off in creating a wonderful opportunity for
all. (Photos, top to bottom: Knox students "mix it up"
