Case of
Whooping Cough Confirmed in Johnstown
Dear
School Community,
There has been a confirmed case of Pertussis (whooping
cough) at Glebe Street Elementary School. Pertussis is a
contagious respirtory disease that is spread by direct
contact with an infected person. The average incubation
period is usually 7-10 days, but may be as long as 21
days. Once treated for five days with an antibiotic, an
infected person is no longer communicable though they may
have a cough.
Please refer to the attached
document from the Department of Health regarding Pertussis.
Thank you for your attention to this important health
matter.
