Bender Scientific Fund Grant Award

The Greater Johnstown School District is pleased to announce receipt of a $7,850 grant for the District’s Freshman Academy from the Bender Scientific Fund of the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.

Johnstown High School science teacher Heidi Bolebruch, who helped author the grant application, says the monies will be used to support technology and enhance STEM learning for students in the program.

In a presentation to the Board of Education, Ms. Bolebruch noted that in addition to materials for STEM projects, $1,000 of the funds have been earmarked to help fund a special trip researched, planned and budgeted for by Freshman Academy students. Twenty-seven of the class members will travel to New York City to take part in “The Ride,” a new generation of sightseeing that incorporates virtual reality and history for an experience far beyond customary NYC bus tours.
