Odyssey of the Mind State Finals Results

Odyssey of the Mind State Finals Results

Johnstown’s Odyssey of the Mind season has come to a close for the 2016-17 school year.  Three Warren Street Odyssey teams advanced to state finals and competed at Binghamton University on Saturday, April 8th. Although they did a fabulous job representing our school district, no awards were won at this competition.  Since this is only the district’s second official year offering the enrichment program, having three teams advance to the state level of competition was a huge accomplishment in itself.  Thank you to all the team members and their coaches for their dedication and hard work.
If you would like to learn more about the Odyssey of the Mind program or see a demonstration of what the students do, one of the sixth grade teams will be performing at the Board of Education meeting at Knox Junior High at 6:30 p.m. on April 26th.  Please feel free to join us.

Author of “The Woman Suffrage Statue” Visits Warren

Author of “The Woman Suffrage Statue” Visits Warren

On Friday, April 7, Sandra Weber,  author of “The Woman Suffrage Statue,” visited  fourth graders at Warren Street School as part of their local history curriculum

She told the story of  Adelaide Johnson’s Portrait Monument to Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, which is now at the Rotunda of the United States Capitol. Through narration, photographs and songs, Weber told the story of  sculptress Addie Johnson, the monument’s creation, the 100th anniversary of NYS suffrage for women and the  local connection to suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who was born and raised in Johnstown. Musical accompaniment  was provided by David Hodges.

Weber signed a copy of her book for the fourth graders and it was donated to the Warren Street School Library. The  presentation was sponsored by the Amsterdam-Gloversville-Johnstown branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and  funded by a New York State AAUW Program Grant.
